eighty ° : the culture of tea (or the birth of a new teamagazine)

Voor één keer in het Engels...

In the world of magazines about drinks, wine still rules. If you are more focused on non-alcoholic beverages, there is not really much to choose, and the sparse magazines that exist talk mainly about coffee, with few pages dedicated to tea. The only magazine I know of, Tea Time, is a very glossy magazine, in its style very English (dare I say female ?), with sometimes an interesting article but a focus on teatime, meaning a very English view on tea and all what happens around the drinking of it. It is excellent for beginners or for people who do not want to go too deep*. There is however a growing market for tea-fanatics, teadrinkers who are focused on the origins of tea and the places it comes from, very much like the advanced winedrinker.

Eighty resolutely goes for these and is focused on tea itself, in its purity and diversion. It talks about terroir, origin, people and history, and the articles are accompagnied by beautiful pictures. There is a great interview with Michael Freeman, photographer and co-author of The Life of Tea, a beautiful book, several articles where local tea-heroes in Australia, New York and Kunming talk about their passion and a great article about Dragon Well Lung Jing. At the end you get some tips for London, Hong Kong or Lissabon, and where to buy tea.

They currently have only one issue, for sale for 15$ on the website, but if you like it, like I did, please subscribe ! You can order your first issue here: https://www.readeighty.com/
